Tonight's the night. Reception for the Natural California Landscapes at La Gallerie Gitana from 6-10pm in the city of San Fernando, CA. If you're in the area and want to check out some great landscape paintings (including 3 of my own), stop by for a visit and some great snacks.

I will have 3 pieces of art in the Villains Exhibit at the 11:11 Gallery in Tarzana, CA, which opens this Sat. 10/18.

So, I was a participant in the Brentwood Arts Festival this past weekend and looking at some of the offerings for the different creatives that were represented, it got me to wondering if traditional art still has a place in our society? By traditional I mean, portraits, landscapes, etc. There were lots of artsy/craftsy merchandise for sale with some offerings of fine art as well. I was one of the fine artists. I had an art professor from Cal State Long Beach, who came by my booth and told me that out of the 100+ vendors at the event, my artwork was the most competent that he'd seen and that he really liked my work. I had several people come by who personally told me that my work was exquisite and the only real art they had seen at the event. So, with those admonitions, one would think that I would have sold something during the all day event. That would be a negatory and it wasn't because my prices were too high. I only had a couple of people who expressed interest. Things that I witnessed that sold were edgy but not really what I would call fine art. It was more like mass-produced art; hence the reason for this blog inquiry about traditional arts training and traditional arts still having a place in our society. It would be great to view some feedback on this query.

One of my portrait pieces was selected for the Inaugural Exhibit for the Museum of the San Fernando Valley, which celebrates the history of Northridge and the San Fernando Valley. Reception should be fun. Hope you can make it.

New Website

Well, I sort of have my new website up and running for my illustration and graphic design work only. GoDaddy's webbuilder page program is not as intuitive as I would have thought and is definitely lacking some features that, as a graphic designer, are just basic common sense. Anyway, I've managed to muddle through it and have most of my site working the way it should though there will be some added tweaks in the next few days.

Other than that, going to see a comedy show at the Ice House in Pasadena tonight with some friends.

So, I've finally got a blog started and not sure where it 's going to go or what direction it is going to take but I hope to keep in art centric. I may post descriptions of pieces I've created and the story (if there is one) behind image. Also, I'll respond to questions about my art if I get any. Let's see where this goes.
